Philip Travaline served as an apprentice for three years with a local luthier after retiring as a professor of music at Camden County College in 2001. He assisted repairing and restoring string instruments and repairing and rehairing bows. In the summer of 2008, Mr. Travaline studied with renowned bow maker Lynn Armour Hannings at the Violin Craftsman Institute of the University of New Hampshire. At the same institute, Mr. Travaline studied with master bow maker George Rubino during the summer of 2009.
