Philip Travaline apprenticed with a local luthier. During this time he assisted in repairing and restoring violins, violas, cellos, and basses. Bow repair and bow rehairing was also part of his training. Philip Travaline also studied with master craftsmen at the University of New Hampshire Violin Institute.
